Each year, fifth through eighth-grade students participate in the American Mathematics Competition 8 (AMC 8). If students perform well on the AMC 8, they are invited to take the high-school-level AMC 10 exam. Eighth-grader Jerry Z. (Almaden, CA) not only performed well on the AMC 8, his outstanding performance on the AMC 10 also earned him a Certificate of Distinction, which qualified him to compete in the 2022 American Invitational Mathematics Exam, or AIME. The AIME is an invitation-only three-hour exam with questions significantly more difficult than those found on the AMC 10. The AIME will be held in February 2022, and we wish Jerry the best on the exam.
